From Thursday 4th of July, all students at UTS are able to upload and invite their classmates to view and comment on their media entries in Kaltura Media Space channels https://kaltura.uts.edu.au/

This feature was requested by UTS Research students and also provides a great opportunity for our coursework students to find use cases in their subjects to share, view each other’s media entries, to have private or group spaces and participate in their group or class activities, by commenting on each other’s playlists of entries or individually on media entries.

Note, media cannot be edited directly in a channel. If you would like to edit a media entry with the help from your teammates or you require to collaborate in creating a shared media, you need to search (by email address) and add your classmates in My Media under the Collaboration tab after pressing on Edit. https://help.online.uts.edu.au/kaltura/supervisors-or-guests-access-to-mymedia-of-kaltura/

What are Kaltura Channels and how are they different from My Media

While My Media is a private and personal space for all UTS users’ videos and audios, a Kaltura Media Space channel is a user-generated collection of content organized around a specific theme or topic. It serves as a centralized media library where users can upload, store, and share various types of media, such as videos, images, audio files, and documents.

Create a New Channel – student role

In Kaltura media space https://kaltura.uts.edu.au/ click on “Channels” in the horizontal menu, then click on the “Create Channel” button.

How to add a media entry into your Channel

In your channel, you can select your already uploaded media, from your private space of My Media and include them.
1. Select the “Media” tab and then click on the “Add to Channel” button.

2. After selecting your chosen media by ticking the box next to it, press the “Publish” button.

Channels playlist

Adding playlists to your channel is like organizing a playlist on your favourite music app – it helps you group and showcase content under different themes or topics. For instance, you might have playlists like “Lesson Plan”, “Campaign Highlights”, or “Leaderboard”. You can pick videos from My Media or your channel and add them to these playlists. These playlists get their own spot in a special tab called ‘Playlists’.
Please select “Create channel playlist” from the drop-down menu of the channel actions icon to be able to create playlists.

Subscription

Users can subscribe to channels to receive email notifications about new content and updates. Channel managers can enable the subscription option for their channels, making it easy for viewers to stay informed about the latest media added to the channel. For more information about Channel subscription please refer to Channel subscription.

Permissions

While staff and students have the permission to enrol members with the same permissions in their channels, as below, UTS students are only able to create Private channels. This is unlike UTS staff members who are able to set up a different range of access permissions for their Channels.
